What Happened to the American Dream?

Two wars, five trillions dollars and counting, three trillion dollars to bail out large banks, giant insurance companies and all of the corruption on wall street.
Unemployment is in the double digits, and home foreclosures are forcing families to become homeless.
When are the American people going to get a “bail out”? The answer is we won’t of course. The government has no reason to bail us out! We don’t have any lobbyists in congress or in the white house.
There was once an American Dream! It was stolen from us however; there is no longer a dream, it has become a nightmare: factories are closing to be shipped overseas, American jobs are systematically destroyed, to be replaced by cheap labour in third world countries–all of this so that the large corporations could make triple their profit margin, and avoid paying taxes. How could our government allow this to go on?
Who are these people we elect to government? They are merely businessmen that run for office not to serve the American people, but to serve their own greed, the lobbyists, foreign companies, and special interest groups.
Long gone is the American dream. We are becoming slaves in our land. The money we work hard to make is taken from us in order to bail out large corporations and banks. These are the same banks that constantly raise the interest on our credit card bills. They borrow our hard earned money from the federal government at less then 2%, and they have the nerve to then turn around and raise our interest rates to 25% or higher!
Our government was supposed to bail out home owners with troubled mortgages. More lies as usual. They gave the banks 27 billion dollars–27 billion of our tax payer dollars and yet the banks refuse to help those with troubled mortgages. Much of this money they received cannot even be accounted for. It has been stolen just like the rest of the 2 trillion dollars of bail out money given by Bush and Obama.
For too long have the American people been in a deep sleep while our dreams and lives have been stolen away from us.
Are we going to wake up before it is too late? We must! It is time to make our voices heard. I ask all of you to write to your congressmen, senators and president. We must make them understand how we feel. The must understand that they have to act now.
Thank you for your support, and may God bless us all!

The American Dream was built on the idea of self reliance and limited government. In the words of John Locke:
“Government has no other end, but the preservation of property.”
Big government is never the answer. As Locke said, the government’s duty is to ensure our well being and rights are protected and nothing more!
I noticed a lot of people are asking the same question you are about when the American people are going to get a bail out, but I think it is the wrong question.
We should not be fighting over credit that never existed in the first place. Bail outs only create inflation, so in theory there is no way we would benefit from these bail outs.
Businesses operate in the market … the market is not American, nor Asian, nor Russian, etc… it is global … if governments make it difficult and expensive for businesses to run above the water it is only natural for them to seek better conditions … the same way an immigrant leave their country in search for work … etc
however i understand your frustration and it is well warranted .. we are both sitting in the same boat
the answer is less government and real free market capitalism as opposed to this system of corporatism we have right now .. another major question yet to be answered is .. what is money? if the american people can figure out what exactly money is and what it is not .. this country will be back on course in no time
@Fabian – Agreed but to a certain extent. The trouble is that if we use that excuse as a reason for businesses cutting American jobs for cheaper labor overseas, we must then put our conditions side by side the living conditions of third world countries with a dramatically less standard of living.
For example, the average Chinese citizen makes $3,315 a year. The average American citizen on the other hand makes $46,859 a year. Looking at these numbers then, we can conclude that even if conditions were friendlier towards business in the USA, large corporations would still be attracted to outsourcing jobs to countries such as China due to an average of 93% they would save in salaries. Obviously no one here would expect any American to work for $69 dollars a week!
I certainly agree that less government is better and that government is not the answer to our problems. The major problem however is that our values of Capitalism and free market economics do not apply to large corporations which receive “Corporate Welfare” from our government. If the free market is to work correctly no corporations, banks or insurance companies should be receiving any governmental aid. This only leads to lobbyists which also by the way works against the free market by giving a business an unfair advantage over its competitors and creates corruption in government.
@ David .. you are correct about corporate welfare .. the real problem is the government is out of control and does not work for the people.
you are also correct that the american standard of living would have to decline .. as the rest of the worlds standard of living increases
the only way to avert this .. is to get government under control and to get them to get out of the way and make SOUND economic decisions … like getting rid of fiat money ..
there is no other way out
